Republic of Senegal is a country on Africa’s west coast.

Senegal is a country known for its French colonial heritage and natural attractions.

A popular theory of how Senegal got its name is that it stems from a miscommunication between the Wolof fishermen and 15th century Portuguese sailors. The Wolof phrase sunu gaal means “our canoe.” It is said that when the Wolof people saw the Portuguese ships, they were saying the phrase “sunu gaal” in reference to the ships, but the Portuguese sailors thought they were referring to the place and named the land Senegal.

They gained their independence from France after breaking away from the Mali Federation on 4th April 1960

Mauritania borders the country to the north, Mali to the east, Guinea to the southeast, Guinea Bissau to the southwest and also the Gambia to the west. It also has a coastline along the North Atlantic Ocean to the west.

Dakar is the capital and largest city of Senegal. located on the Cap-Vert peninsula on the Atlantic coast.

Incredible beaches in West Africa are here. Especially those at Cap Skiring and they are definitely less crowded. Combine this with good surfing and incredible music and you have a beach bum’s paradise!

Senegal is home to one of Africa’s most unique and sexy dances – Sabar dancing.  Performed to the beats of the Sabar drum, Sabar dancing incorporates feelings of feminine sensuality and flirtatiousness.

This is a place where the Sun usually visits as there are seasons that could result to drought. Like any Muslim countries, they have this dress code of not wearing clothes above the knees.
