RWANDA LOWERS POWER TARIFF AS INCENTIVE FOR INVESTORS.

Rwanda new tariff will favor industries and large consumers of electricity.

The Government of Rwanda will announce the new price of electricity for industries and other large consumers of electricity soon.

Despite the ongoing development in the power sector, the Government wants to cub the issues of load shedding. This plan is to serve as incentives to investors in the country and pave way for more investors.

Large consumers of power in the country have previously been forced to use alternative source of power, this new tariff will reduce the cost of electricity for both industry and home.

The increasing number of industries in the country gave raise to the recent upgrades. The cost of storing this electricity is high.

Early last year, Government slashed unit prices for electricity by 50%. The aim of this move is to increase affordability, better service delivery and competitiveness.The electricity tariff for households that consumed not more than 15KW per month dropped  into a 51% deduction from the standard cost.

People with consumption between 15KW and 50KW per month paid US $0.21 kilowatt while those consuming more than 50KW per month paid US$0.23 per kilowatt.
