SEYCHELLES TO GET FLOATING SOLAR DEMONSTRATION PROJECT

Seychelles Providence Industrial Estate is expected to have a floating solar demonstration project installed in its coastal area.

The project, a first of its kind in the nation will exhibit the technical concept and show benefits of offshore solar photovoltaic compared to fossil fuel power. It will be implemented by Swimsol in partnership with Energy Solutions Seychelles.

Acccording to a press statement by Swimsol, it reads “To harness the full potential of solar energy in Seychelles, solar photovoltaic should not only be installed on land and in sheltered water areas but also offshore. Floating photovoltaic is the option to save limited space on land.”

Swimsol noted that they have received a grant from the Nordic Development Fund (NDF) to develop an offshore floating demonstration project in Seychelles.

Meanwhile, the delivery of the floating platforms takes between six to nine months, including production, shipping, assembling and commissioning. Assembling and mooring take around two days per platform per production line.
