SIEMENS COMPLETES TOSHKA ELECTRICAL SUBSTATION IN EGYPT

Siemens completes Toshka Electricity substation that will dispatch around 4000 MW of electricity in Egypt.

Siemens has completed the construction of  the new Toshka Electrical Substation in Egypt. The new 220kv Air-Insulated Substation (AIS) will dispatch around 4000MW of electricity to secure reliable power transmission. It will also help to reduce the loss of transferred power.

The Substation will play a vital role in the Egypt-Sudan electric interconnection project as it is just near the border of both nations. Meanwhile, both nations’ grid will also be linked via a 170 kilometer transmission line starting from Toshka city in Egypt to Dongola in Sudan.

Chairperson of Egypt Electricity Transmission Company, Sabah Meshaly said “The new project comes in line with Egypt’s national plan. She also said it will share power with neighboring countries as well as drive more dynamic co-operation.”

The Toshka Electricity Substation will also help expand access and lower the cost of electricity supply to homes in Sudan. It will also help promote sustainable development and business in the nation too.

Under the agreement, Siemens will be responsible for the project managing, engineering, designing, manufacturing and delivering of core components. They will further provide site management, testing and commissioning on turnkey basis.

Siemens Senior Executive Vice President Farag ElSaadany said ”Egypt-Sudan interconnection project is definitely a unique opportunity to unlock Africa’s vast energy potential. He also said the deal is an ongoing effort to adapt to an evolving energy landscape.”

According to Farag, Siemens aims to implement key regional infrastructure projects that supports reliable, stable and efficient energy transmission.
