SOUTH AFRICA KICKS OFF THE CONSTRUCTION OF WESLEY CISKEI WIND POWER PLANT

The Wesley Ciskei wind farm will provide 34.5 MW to the network of South African public company of Eskom.

The new Wesley Ciskei wind farm will be constructed by Vestas Wind System near the town of Paddie. The project was handed to them by EDF Renewables ( Électricité de France) after they signed and Engneering Procurement and Construction (EPC). Hence, one of the major reason for the project is to foster the South Africa’s Renewable Energy Supply Programme (REIPPP) as well as independent producers of renewable energy (IPP).

Therefore, all civil engineering work will be done by Vestas Wind System. The electricity production will be monitored by the Vestas Online Business SCADA system. EDF has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with South Africa’s Eksom.

“The Wesley-Ciskei wind project is of great importance to the Eastern Cape Province. It is the first and only wind energy project located in a former region of the Eastern Cape Province, although this region represents nearly 40% of the province’s land mass and is home to 60% of the province’s population,” says EDF.
