STANDARD GAUGE RAILWAY CONSTRUCTION AGREED BY TANZANIA AND RWANDA
Tanzania and Rwanda to combined in the construction of a railway that will cost between US$800 to $900 million when completed.
The construction of the project which is expected to start from Isaka (northwestern Tanzania) to Kigali in Rwanda was put into motion after Rwandan President Paul Kagame toured Tanzania yesterday in a one day official visit.
During the tour, President of Tanzania john Magufuli said both infrastructure ministers of the two countries will meet next week to plan on the a proper financial model of the project.
Tanzania President John Magufuli; “We want the construction to start immediately because the feasibility studies and designs are complete.”
The project which is a 400 km Standard Gauge Railway from Isaka to Kigali will help boost trade between the two countries as it will connect Rwanda to Dar es Salaam port and is expected to cost between US$800 to $900 million according to a study conducted by the East African Community (EAC).
According to the Rwandan government, the projects are intended to increase efficiency and reduce cost of transport of goods in both nations.
