Since July 25th, Mauritius has been battling with big oil spills from a Japanese-owned ship. The ship is believed to have been carrying 4,000 tonnes of fuel oil, and had ran aground on a coral reef. Mauritius is a biodiversity hotspot with a high concentration of plants and animals unique to the region. Experts are warning that the damage could be huge and long-lasting, but will require massive collaboration in combating the effect.
