TANZANIA MPs LIST CHALLENGES AFFECTING INDUSTRIALISATION DRIVE

Members of Parliaments (MPs) list out challenges affecting industrialisation drive in Tanzania.

Tanzania is a nation with great potential but lack of industrialisation is affecting it. The members of parliaments during it session said its is due to unfriendly business environment.

According to the MPs, this is hindering and also threatening industrialisation drive. The MPs cited tax burden and kidnaping incidents as some of the challenges that were impeding the industrialisation drive.

Arusha Urban legislator (Chadema), Godbless Lema said “If such incidents continue, they will send a negative message to potential investors across the world. He also blame some government task forces, for treating investors like criminals.”

Meanwhile, Mtama MP (CCM) Nape Nnauye has called on the government to widen its tax base in order to reduce the burden for a few available taxpayers. According to taxman report, the number of registered taxpayers stands at 2.75 million.

The Member said that the government should be creative enough to establish new sources of revenue. According to him, this will help reduce the burden on current  taxpayers and help generate more revenue.

Muleba South MP (CCM), Prof Anna Tibaijuka, advised the government to find ways of protecting markets for locally produced products. He said this will help the country to retain its dream of becoming an industrialised nation.
