UGANDA OLD TAXI PARK RENOVATION KICK-OFF

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has kick-off the redevelopment plans of the facility as the park has been in a deplorable state for so long.

According to the plans, the redevelopment will include excavation and disposal of the existing material, installation of underground drainage lines, rock fill, and construction of new foundation layers for the carpet and surfacing of the constructed layers with asphalt concrete (tarmac).

Meanwhile, the new carpet will have markings to describe areas for parking and for taxi and pedestrian movements. These new boundaries will help prevent mud from washing onto the carpet as has been the case, while lighting and some waiting sheds for passengers will be installed.Uganda begins the reconstruction of the Old taxi park in Kampala.

KCCA acting executive director, Mr Andrew Mubiru Kitaka said “The redevelopment works at the Old Taxi Park have already commenced and we have agreed with taxi operators that they relocate to other parks in the city. We hope to complete redevelopment of the facility in three months and the entire project will cost US$3.1m (Shs12b)”.

As renovation activities kick-off, all taxi are required to relocate to Usafi, Kisenyi, New Park and other city parks to pave way for redevelopment of the facility.

Stirling Civil Engineering Limited and Kiru General Services Limited are tasked with delivering the project as it will have a designated entry and exit points for both vehicles and pedestrians.
