UNCERTAINITIES IN THE REOPENING OF MISRATA-SIRTE ROAD, LIBYA

The Libya Review reports that forces affiliated with the Government of National Accord (GNA), known as the Al-Samoud Brigade, announced on its Facebook page its complete refusal to reopen the coastal road between Misrata and Sirte. This goes contrary to the ceasefire agreement reached on October 23, 2020 in Geneva by the GNA and Libyan National Army (LNA). Both parties signed an agreement to withdraw foreign fighters from Libya and reopen the county’s roads.

This recent development is rather unfortunate, because roads are an integral part of economic activities in a nation. Being an economic route that connects the western port city of Misrata and northern Sirte, you can only imagine the hardship on citizens.
