US $77M WATER RECLAMATION PLANT TO BE BUILD IN WINDHOEK

Windhoek to construct a water reclamation plant that will help reduce the reliance on NamWater.

The city of Windhoek which is the capital of Namibia has plan to construct a water reclamation plant that will serve the purpose of cutting back on its reliance on NamWater and also improve water collection efficiency. NamWater which is a commercial entity supplying water in bulk to industries, municipalities and the Directorate of Rural Water Supply in the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry in the country.

Windhoek Chief Engineer for bulk and wastewater, Sebastian Husselmann; ”The water reclamation plant harbors the potential to increase the city’s capacity to reclaim water and thus one of the transformational strategic objectives in play to help reduce reliance on NamWater as bulk supplier of potable water.”

The propose reclamation plant has to ways of recycling water, either through the high-water standard purification which is consumable or semi-purified water which is for gardens and sport fields.

Individuals in the area are expected to set up tanks at home and harvest rainwater for their gardens as part of the city’s water demand strategies that will help reduce water consumption.

The plant will take an estimated 5 years to reach completion.
