US$10.1M MOZAMBIQUE’S WATER PUMPING STATION INAUGURATED

Magula water station inaugurated by President Filipe Nyusi.

The Magula water station which is located in the Lower Limpopo irrigation scheme was inaugurated by President Filipe Nyusi. The water station which has the capacity to pump 2.49 cubic metres of water a second is expected to produce 5,000 tonnes of rice and 20,000 tonnes of vegetables per agricultural campaign, in addition to maize and other crops.

The project which will increase in productivity and production will help guarantee food security and generate income for farming households.

President Filipe Nyusi; ”Magula’s 1050ha will serve as the centre of the attention of Mozambicans because the pumping station opens expectations for the improvement and diversification of production and also solve the country’s problems.

According to him; “The initiative will allow water management in the event of floods and on the other hand, it will also serve as a guarantee for storage of water for irrigation and a measure of resilience against climate change.”
