WOMEN NOT SAFE IN CAIRO BUT SAFEST IN LONDON

Cairo rated the world unsafest place for women while London the safest according to polls rating.

According to Thomson Reuters Foundation, sexual violence and harmful cultural practices is a major challenge affecting women. In a survey conducted in 19 mega cities housing over 10 million people, several experts on women’s issues were asked if they have good access to healthcare, finance and education.

According to their survey, London is the safest while Tokyo and Paris comes in second and third respectively. Cairo is the worst overall followed by Karachi and Kinshasa coming second and third from bottom because the traditions dating back centuries were seen as holding girls back.

Madeh Lofty, Cairo resident; ”It’s really bad, you know, You feel like you are not a human being, you are like a weird creature, you know, you are just walking and you hear something you should not hear on the street.”

Kayleigh Weedon, London resident, “Like with the healthcare there is a lot of opportunities, you can get a lot of things, a lot of free things also for women. The safety – I feel so much safer over here. I can walk at night and not feel scared,”
