ZIMBABWE AND ZAMBIA AGREE DEAL FOR HYDRO-ELECTRICITY PROJECT

Batoka Gorge Hydro Electricity project deal agree by both nations.

The both nations has agree a deal worth US$4,5 billion for the project. The batoka Gorge Hydro Electricity project will help bring both nations together due to the deal.

Zimbabwe has also receive an interest from General Electric Africa to undertake the 1 600 megawatt power project. The project will be along the Zambezi River which is co-owned with Zambia.

According to report, both nations will have a technical meeting this week that will be spearhead by experts from two the countries.

The project will also help ease power shortages in Zimbabwe and Zambia. It will also create 6000 jobs and have a huge potential to supply other regional countries.

Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa said “We have the Batoka Gorge project along the Zambezi River; the feasibility studies have been complete. He also said there are three companies that are applying to do the project and we are assessing their capability.”

The development comes as Zimbabwe has set in motion a number of electricity generation projects. It will help to produce surplus power in the next five years.

Early this year, General Electric Africa approached Parliament of Zimbabwe expressing interest to invest in the multi-billion-dollar venture.

The both nations will share the electricity equally when generation commences.
