ZIMBABWE KARIBA SOUTH PROJECT TO BE COMPLETED IN 2018

Zimbabwe power demand to increase from 1500MW to 2200MW after the Kariba south project is completed in 2018

The project which was initiated by the Zimbabwe power company (ZPC) will improve the country power shortage. The project which is expected to inject two 150 MW units at Kariba South Power Station and two 300 MW units at Hwange Power Station which will atleast meet the country peak power demand of 2200 MW that presently stand at 1 500 MW.

Kariba south project which is Zimbabwe’s largest infrastructure since their independence was awarded to Hatch limited has been under construction seen 2011. The Hydro-power project is divided into four distinct phases; Phase 1 involved project inception and review, Phase 2 Procurement made up, Phase 3 tender document, an Expression of Interest was issued that will make Hatch narrowed the potential candidates down to five and Phase 4 involves commissioning and handover, then a two-year warranty period.

The project is currently 85% complete and is expected to be completed in 2018.
