ZIMBABWE’s PRESIDENT TO MISS WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM
Zimbabwe’s President skips World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos due to violent protests in his country.
Amid the current unrest in Zimbabwe; her President Emmerson Mnangagwa have being out of the country for series of bilateral trade and investment meetings in Russia.
However, he recently announced via twitter that he was returning home and will be skipping the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.
In light of the economic situation, I will be returning home after a highly productive week of bilateral trade and investment meetings. We will be ably represented in Davos by Minister of Finance, Mthuli Ncube. The first priority is to get Zimbabwe calm, stable and working again.

The recent violent protests in Zimbabwe over fuel price hike, have seen the government ordering its biggest mobile operator to shut down; leaving the country without any access to social media. So, it is therefore uncertain how many people in Zimbabwe have actually seen the president’s message on twitter.
According to spokesperson from the presidency the shutdown was to limit the access to sites like WhatsApp, Twitter and Facebook; which protesters were also using to coordinate demonstrations.
These demonstrations especially in Harare have led to the killing over five(5) persons and several others injured.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa is now among the growing list of world leaders who will be boycotting the World Economic Forum. Among the list include US President Donald Trump, British Prime Theresa May, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron who like Zimbabwe’s president is also trying to repress violent protests in his country.
