CHINA ASSURES SUPPORT FOR KENYA’s TERRORISM FIGHT

China assures Kenya support to fight terrorism

Wang, Beijing’s top diplomat and also a member of the 19th Communist Party of China (CPC) central committee, said “China firmly opposes all forms of terrorism and will continue to offer unwavering support to Kenya’s efforts to fight against terrorism and maintain national security”.

After the attack that occurred on 15th January, 2019 the Chinese Embassy in Nairobi; issued a statement addressed to Foreign Affairs cabinet Secretary Monica Juma condemning all forms of terrorism. The statement also hailed the speedy response of Kenyan security agencies in suppressing the situation.

China’s Foreign Minister Wang later also held a briefing to with Juma and other foreign diplomats station in Nairobi. However, Juma also assured them of the government’s commitment to fight terrorism, and also seek their support.

According to Juma, the al-Shabaab-linked terrorists responsible for the attack actually targeted the world. Because some global establishment and international interest are located in the hotel and office complex on 14 Riverside Drive.

Cabinet colleagues who accompanied Juma said; the international community needs to collaborate to breakdown these terror groups.

Ten suspects have been arraigned in court as suspects for the attack; the police also now have permission to detain them for 30 days to finish the investigations.

The Somali-based extremist group Al-Shabaab said its attack on 15th January, 2019 was a response to the decision by the United States President Donald Trump in recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

The terrorist group also said in the statement released on 16th January, 2019, that the economic interests of US and Israel will suffer as long as the US President’s administration continues with with its policies especially those detrimental to Palestinians.
