Africa to get improved Telecommunication and Internet service through the IOX Fiber Optic Submarine Cable System.

A Mauritius-based fiber optic cable company, IOX Cable Limited, and Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN), a telecommunications firm, have commenced survey for an 8,850 kilometers Undersea IOX Cable System which is intended to be the first open access cable system, that connects Africa  to the Indian Ocean Islands of Rodrigues and La Ruenion.

When completed in 2019 as planned, the communication scheme will provide improved internet services across parts of the African continent, as the design capacity of the system is over 54 terabits per second.

The ultra-high speed cable network will connect Mauritius and Rodrigues to the East Coast of South Africa on one side and the East Coast of India on the other. Additionally, it will provide a new alternative path for connecting Asia and Africa and onward to Europe and the USA.
