BASIC VEHICLE SAFETY CHECKS IN AFRICA

We all know that vehicle are machines that transport good, people and cargo, but what most people don’t know is how to care for them. It is vital that we perform basic check on our vehicles daily before it is put into use.

In this article, we would be discussing various ways of checking our vehicles. The first item to consider is to have a vehicle checklist as it will enable you know what is needed.

LIST OF VEHICLE CHECKLIST 

  1. Warning triangle(c-caution)
  2. Fire Extinguisher
  3. Jack
  4. Spare tyre
  5. First Aid kit
  6. Wheel Spanner
  7. Water
  8. Hydraulic
  9. Transmission Fluid
  10. Torch Light
  11. Spare fan Belt

The checklist is important as it ensure safety of drivers and passengers as well as having a fully function vehicle.

BASIC VEHICLE SAFETY CHECK

The safety check must be conducted in the vehicle on a daily basis. This will ensure a hitch free process for both drivers and passengers as well as keep the vehicle performing at its best.

The check is split into two phase which are tagged the First Parade,Second Parade and Third parade. The First is focused on the engines, the second is on safety of the vehicles while the third is after the day activities.

FIRST PARADE (WOIT)

WOIT= Water, Oil. Fan Belt and Tyres.

W= Check for water level in the radiator

O= Check for level of engine oil using dipstick

F= Check fan belt for tension and cuts

T= Check for cuts, punctures, pressure and Wheel nuts plus depth of threading

SECOND PARADE (SAFETY)

This second parade is all about the safety of the vehicles. It includes checking;

  1. Lighting system; head lamps, side lamps, signal indicator and reverse lights.
  2. Brakes and clutches; Hydraulic level
  3. Wipers
  4. Steering Mechanism
  5. Horns
  6. Spare Tyre
  7. Reflective Triangle
  8. Fire Extinguisher
  9. Battery
  10. Body inspection

THIRD PARADE

This activities are performed at the end of the day activities. This includes checking all the items in the first and second parade then record everything in the log book.
