CONSTRUCTION OF MOHAMMED V1 TANGIER TECH CITY PROJECT ON TRACK IN MOROCCO

Chinese companies and representatives from Morocco’s public and private sectors signed in Rabat an agreement to launch the construction of the Mohammed VI Tangier Tech City project, a smart city ambitious project that King Mohammed VI launched in 2017.

The smart city, which is expected to be completed by 2027, will host nearly 200 Chinese companies, to create a “sustainable, integrated, and intelligent industrial city,” Morocco’s Ministry of Industry and Trade said in a statement.

Other Chinese businesses have announced their intention to set up automotive, aerospace, textile, electronics, and machinery factories on the 2000-hectare site.

The project will include a 947-hectare industrial acceleration zone (ZAI), as well as a 1,220-hectare area consisting of service and residential areas, leisure and tourism complexes, and “the public infrastructure necessary for the proper functioning of the city.”

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Morocco’s Minister of Industry and Trade explained that the project aligns with King Mohammed VI’s vision to make the North African country a hub for financial and industrial interaction between Europe and Africa.

“It is an industrial megapolis which undeniably supports the national industrial strategy and thus strengthens Morocco’s attractiveness and competitiveness on the international level”, Mezzour highlighted.

The agreement was signed by Morocco’s Ministries of Industry and Trade, Equipment and Water, Economy and Finance, the Tangier-Tettouan-Al Houceima’s Council and Wilaya, the Bank of Africa, the Tangier Mediterranean Special Agency (TMSA), and the Tangier Tech Management Company (SATT).

Also signing the deal where the Chinese companies Beijing Zhonglu Urban Development Corporation, China Communications Construction Company LTD, China Road and Bridge Corporation LTD, and CCCC Investment Company LTD.
