ETHIOPIA PM CALLS FOR MANUFACTURERS TO HELP EXPAND PRODUCTION INDUSTRY

The half-day tour today is a part of the government-led national movement called ‘Ethiopia Tamrit’, or Let Ethiopia Produce. The movement, launched in May 2022, aims to address the challenges encountered by manufacturers to boost their production and import substitutions.

On Wednesday, the PM made a tour of value various industrial complexes in Gelan Town located 30 kilometers out of Addis Ababa.

Abiy first visited the BK Metal Engineering Complex. The plant assembles heavy-duty trucks and buses, in addition to making different industrial components.

“Metal and engineering industries in Ethiopia are expanding and a worthy investment venture,” he said after the visit.

The PM tour concluded with his visit to Horra Industries where modern coffee processing, roasting, and cement packaging activities are taking place.

In a tweet later, he said “industries play a large role in forex generation, and I once again encourage investments in MadeInEthiopia.”

The sector was one of the most affected sectors by the Covid pandemic and security-related challenges last year. It still managed to generate a historic high $500 million export revenue during the last 2021/22 fiscal year.
