FENCING WORK AT MAURITIUS’s RICHELIEU OPEN PRISON TO BE COMPLETED IN 2021
Mauritius Government has announced that the fencing work going on at the Richelieu Open Prison is set for completion in June 2021.
The project which is carried-out by inmate of the prison began on 2 December 2019, but stopped during the lockdown due to the Covid-19.
However after all Health protocol was performed, the work resumed on 01 June 2020. Meanwhile it is reported that out of 501.8 m of security fence, 82.5 m have already been erected.
The statement was brought to limelight after Prime Minister, Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, was replying, to a Parliamentary Question at the National Assembly, in Port Louis.
According to the PM, on 26 March 2019, invitation for bids for the procurement of panel fence in the range of 1.8 m to 2.5 m and accessories for the first phase was sent to five potential suppliers. On 23 April 2019, the lowest and most responsive bidder was awarded the contract for the sum of some Rs 1,483,661.
