FAILED SCHOOL UPGRADE PROJECTS IN SOUTH AFRICA

Over 50 school upgrade projects in the Eastern Cape jilted.

The contractors left the site without hastily because they have not been paid for a while by the Department of Public Works in charge of the implementing the project. The schools were all in shock as they are not aware of the fact that the contractors has not been paid.

The spokesman of the Department of Public Works said :

“over-committed for the financial year. Hence the delays in the execution of projects and payments to contractors.”

The upgrades done before now has been stripped of and vandalized because there was no security around the jilted project. The ceilings disrobed, electrical wiring yanked off, windows were shagged out,  and walls cracked. Hence, the schools are worst than what they were before the plan for the upgrade.

What will be the future of the schools with the present status quo?

The projects are on hold and will continue depending on when the department will get more funding for the projects. Some implementing agents accepted more contractors than they can afford leading to the current issue at hand. A total of 52 major projects were affected as a result of this.

Irresponsibility leads to uneconomical disbursement and mismanagement.

Who will be held responsible for this failed project?
