GHANA KICKS-OFF THE OBETSEBI-LAMPTEY INTERCHANGE PROJECT.

President Akufo-Addo commissions the construction of the Obetsebi-Lamptey interchange project Accra.

The Obetsebi-Lamptey interchange project came to be as a result of the usual heavy traffic congestion on the corridor that links Kaneshie, Graphic Road, Nkrumah Circle and Mamprobi at the Obetsebi-Lamptey circle.

The first phase of the project will consist of two tier interchange with storm drains and channels beneath  Graphic road. Hence, the central business district of Accra can now easily be accessed from the Kanesehie market.

The second phase will widen the road and divide it into three lanes with one specifically for Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). It will also see to the widening of the Awudome Cemetery and Nii Teiko Din (Prampram Junction) roads into dual carriage lanes, as well as improvement of the Kaneshie Market Terminal.

The road will be re-branded with roundabout and two flyover with one linking the Graphic road to Kaneshie-Mallam road (east-west flyover) while the other one will link Ring Road from the Royal Chapel to the Central Mosque at Abossey Okai (north-south flyover).

According to President Akufo-Addo the project is inline with the administrations plan of improving urban mobility in the Western part of Accra.

“We are tacking critical road projects in a holistic manner so that every part of the country has quality all-weather roads. “Funding for this project has been secured, amounting to $135 million, made possible by Export Credit Facilities from the United Kingdom and Spain, for which we are appreciative,” said Akufo-Addo.
