CRISIS AT MTN UGANDA FOLLOWING GOVERNMENT INVESTIGATION
There is currently a crisis at MTN Uganda involving the government and top executives.
MTN Uganda, East Africa’s biggest telecoms operator is facing investigation on false declaration of revenue and other business activities. Following these investigations, Uganda’s government initiated a move to expel Wim Vanhelleputte, Chief Executive of MTN Uganda from the country. The government has cited national security issues as the reason for the actions taken against the company. Early this year, the Ugandan government expelled two top executives at the company citing same reason. Some suspect that these developments are politically motivated as the country prepares itself for a general election.
