President Yoweri K Museveni will officiate at the Ground Breaking ceremony for the construction of Atiak – Laropi road. The project will receive funding from the EU and Govt of Uganda to enable Strabag Int. handle construction of the 66km paved road.
According to Strabag Int., site mobilisation is currently underway
On 1st of June 2020 the works for the upgrading of the Atiak-Laropi-Road to Paved Standard started. The 66 km road starts in Atiak at a junction off the Gulu – Atiak – Nimule road and runs in a north-westerly direction through Adjumani town and ends at Umi at the ferry landing site on the River Nile. The existing gravel road will be widened and upgraded to an asphalt road. It will be widened up to 7,00 m carriageway plus 2 x 2,00 m shoulders. Currently a team of about 180 persons are on site organizing the mobilization.
The equipment is imported through Tanzania and Europe. The site establishment with the offices, laboratories, workshops and the camp for the Engineer and STRABAG staff is set up near Adjumani (KM34). Furthermore, the quarry expropriation is ongoing, the existing road is under maintenance and the original ground survey in progress. All the mobilization- and project processes are respecting the implementations and restrictions of COVID-19 prevention measures in the country.
