What young engineers should do during this lock-down period

Engineering is one of the most important disciples to a nation. So, the novel virus which has brought a halt to all activities will surly have hinder progress on all engineering work. But what can young engineering do during this lock-down period?

Back then in school, engineering was our pride and joy as we breath, eat and even sleep with it on a daily basis. That is why it hurts to see shut down of all engineering related activities due to the corona virus pandemic, but like the saying goes, there is always light at the end of the tunnel.

The most important aspect now for a young engineer has to be personal development. So, in these article, I will be sharing some aspect that we need to focus on as we continue to stay safe.

DEVELOP TECHNICAL SKILLS

This is one aspect that should be in the mind of every young engineer. The mindset of learning everyday should never be removed from the mind as it enables us enhance our skill as well keep us informed with the latest trends in the engineering industry.

REVIEWS YOUR GOALS

In life, everybody has dreams and aspiration but without setting goals and targets, then it will be impossible to achieve them. Your goals should be clearly spelled out and written down on your person diary. It should indicate the ways you want to achieve it and standards you must follow.

ENROLL IN ONLINE CLASS/WEBINARS

Like I said early, learning should not be a day or two days stuff. It has to be on a daily basis which is why online classes and webinars are vital during this pandemic period. As they enable you be know and improve your thinking with regards different ways to tackle any problem you may encounter in the future.

KNOW THE BASIS OF LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT

The whole idea of engineer doesn’t need management skill should be completed erased from our memory. I remembered back then in school, when some individuals have this mindset that all engineers are always going to be either on site or in the drawing studio so why do we need management or leadership skills. It took one of our lecturer to clearly explain the important of management skill to those individuals after it gain department attention back then in school.

 

As we continue to stay at home, Young engineers should think beyond this period. The novel virus has hit the world but we as young engineers should never stop pushing to reach our goals and knowing stuff like what was highlighted at the back of our mind will surely put us on the right track.
