KENYA ROADS BOARD PLANS NEW INITIATIVE TO BOOST INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT
The Kenya Roads Board (KRB) is in charge of funding, overseeing and coordinating road maintenance and rehabilitation. KRB is set to launch a new initiative to help boost Kenya’s road network and other infrastructures.
As part of the initiative, the Kenya Roads Board Directors, championed by Chairperson Rita Kavashe and Executive Director Eng. Jacob Ruwa; have also planned a four(4) day County tour in Nairobi’s coastal and central regions. The tour will run from 25th February to 1st March, 2019.
The tour for the year is going to be bi-annual with this being the first; it will focus on improving and strengthening the relationship between the county government officials.
The county governments are very vital; they directly receive the the Road Maintenance Levy Fund and are thus a key player in road maintenance.
The Executive Director of Kenya Roads Board, Eng. Jacob Ruwa, said “KRB has disbursed Ksh 33.4 billion (US$334 million) to road agencies, County governments and Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) towards maintenance of various roads in the country for the period July to December, 2018.” Kenya’s County governments received about Ksh 4.135 Billion(US$41.3 million) of the total amount.
This fund given is for maintenance activities including pothole patching, bush clearing, re-carpeting, unclogging drainage and others. This will further the development of the country’s infrastructure and also increase economic growth.
