LIBERIA GOVT. PARTNER WITH GVL TO EXECUTE ROAD REHABILITATION
The Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Public Works have signed a partnership with Golden Veroleum (Liberia) Inc. (GVL) to carry out road rehabilitation in Sinoe County.
The project was agreed in decemeber 2019, however after the long delay, three road contractors has been appointed.
It is expected that the contractors will carry out the works for rehabilitating about 272 kilometers of primary laterite roads. With the roads expected to connect Pleebo in Maryland County to Weah Town in Tarjuowon Statutory District in Sinoe County.
The road contractors include: (1) West Africa Construction Inc.: the rehabilitation of primary laterite road designated as lot #1 Pleebo – Buah Geeken (115.5 km); (2) Prime Plus Construction Inc.: the rehabilitation of primary laterite road designated as lot #2 Boa Geeken – Greenville (118.5 km); and (3) Tarhini Construction: the rehabilitation of primary laterite road designated as lot #3 Greenville – Wiah Town (38 Km).
The project is aimed at reducing the high maintenance cost faced by companies in the Southeast. As well as also bring relief to thousands of citizens in the Counties, as the bad road condition has stopped people from trading and having free movement.
BENEFIT OF THE ROAD?
The Southeast region of Liberia has for a long time been having major road connectivity challenges. This has seen company spending high logistics cost, high vehicle and road maintenance costs since the commencement of its operations in 2010.
Meanwhile, Counties of Sinoe, Grand Kru has experience serious deep in their economy growth due to the poor road network.
Currently, both parties are finalizing the timetable for the implementation of the road contract as selected road is expected to start between october and november.
