NIGERIA GOVT. AWARD CONTRACTS FOR RAIL AND NEW SEAPORT

Nigerian government approves contracts that will to a great extent solve the problems of its transportation sector

The Federal Government of Nigeria has awarded contracts for a rail and new seaport. The contract to complete the rail projects is worth US$45billion while for the seaport is US$3.9billion.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi during an interview with newsmen in Abuja. According to the minister, the rail will connect Abuja with Warri and Itakpe.

Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi said ”We are building a new seaport in Warri, the cabinet approved it last week, that is about 3.9 billion dollars.”

According to Amaechi, the rail would have covered the country once most of the project are complete. Such project includes Lagos-Kano, Port Harcourt-Maduguri, Lagos-Calabar and Abuja-Warri rail lines.

The Lagos-Ibadan will cost about 1.6 billion dollars while Abuja-Kaduna was about a billion dollars. Rotimi Amaechi said Railway is capital intensive, a trillion naira is about 2.7 billion dollars.

According to him, once the four tracks are seal, they will have solved the problems of transportation to a great extend.
