TRANS-GAMBIA BRIDGE SET TO BE INAUGURATED IN JANUARY 2019

Gambia’s President assured of Trans-Gambia Bridge completion during site tour of the project.

Construction of the Trans-Gambia bridge is set to be complete after the contractor inform the President. The 1.8kilometer long bridge is over five storeys high. It is design to accomodate passage of most vessels, while longer-mast boats will also easily fold their masts to pass through the bridge.

The project was explain to President Barrow by Lamin Bojang, project supervisor and his team of engineers and consultants. They also said the piers are 93% complete while the deck is now 67% complete.

The visit is part of the President Barrow ongoing nationwide tour of different projects around the nation. Meanwhile, the project will be one of the  biggest in the sub-region. It also have on its books around 62% of its workers from Gambia with 18% expatriates, and 20% Ecowas citizens.

Once completion is over, it will serve as an important trade link between Gambia, Senegal and the sub-region. It will also open up the region to the Cairo-Lagos trade corridor.

During the site visit, the team explain how the impact of the construction of the bridge will affect the environment. The team also have several experts which help to give technical advise on the environment.
