UBER PUBLIC BUS SERVICE SOON TO COMMENCE IN EGYPT

Uber, the smartphone enabled ride-hailing service alternative to traditional taxi-cabs is set to launch a public bus service in Egypt.

Egypt been the most populous Arab country with a population of over 90 million is faced with heavy traffic, which Uber is striving to ameliorate since its arrival in 2014. Currently the Uber service is available in only three(3) Egyptian cities, Cairo, Alexandria and Mansoura.

The new Uber bus service which aims at expanding into other cities of the country will carter for 5.2 million commuters on public transport who are already agitated by the doubling of ticket prices especially in Cairo.

In an interview, the Minister of Investment and International Cooperation Sahar Nasr said, “the new Uber busses will be launched within the coming three months,” he also added that “the company still anticipates the issuance of a law regulating its ride-sharing services.”

Another ride sharing service available in Egypt is Careem which offers its riders modern air-conditioned buses that travel along fixed routes.
